Massive Attack

2006_05_scissorfight.jpgWe had never heard of Scissorfight before we got their latest disc in the mail a while ago. The way the album opened we totally thought we were in for another stoner rock clone hewing closely to the path set by Fu Manchu when they went all catchy and melodic a few years ago. And then things took a major turn on the downtune and we realized these boys weren’t newbies to the scene at all. Newbies don’t take expectations and turn them on their ears and bash them into the pavement and evil evil evil SATAN SATAN SATAN!

Oh, pardon us, we get a little overexcited sometimes.

Seriously though, Scissorfight is a great band to get drunk to, thrash around to and relive those days (real or imagined) hangin’ in the lot checkin’ out other people’s wicked rides. This is a band that tells it the way it sees it; no muss, no fuss, no kidding. Their latest album is titled Jaggernaut ferchrissake!

Lyrically the band doesn’t go much further than the usual references to carcasses and death and all that sort of fun stuff, but believe us when we say that such single-mindedness only furthers their cause. Who has time to waste on lyrics while honing battle axe riffs? Lyrics would only get in the way.

Did we mention the rock that they bring? They do indeed bring it. The best part is that while it’s sharp enough and heavy enough to keep the boys happy, it also swings and boogies and offers plenty of chances for young ladies to make with the shaking of the hips. And the devil horns. And the calls for “More cowbell!”

Seriously.

Scissorfight plays Double Door tonight. We recommend you don’t miss ‘em.
