The Neo-Futurists' Next Round

The Drinking and Writing series is the perfect libation for theater enthusiasts and beer lovers. Each low-maintenance, high-buzz show is a collection of meticulously researched history, anecdote, editorial, and clever party tricks presented by three Neo-Futurists in a watering hole of choice. Since 2002, they’ve mostly stuck to bars around town with regular travel around the country and an engagement at the Edinburgh Fringe Fest. Wherever they go, the Neos ask why so many great writers are inveterate drinkers.
This weekend kicks off a new round of meditations on the blessed hangover: that signal of overindulgence best cured with a few more rounds. Saturday night you can contemplate this phenomenon with a trio of talented writers (and drinkers) in one of Chicago’s best bars, then down a few pints and explore the sensation for yourself. The show is the centerpiece of the Festivus Veisalgia, a celebration of (and extended quest to cure) the dreaded h-word. Discuss your own antidotes Monday afternoon at the “The Pub Crawl To Cure A Hangover.” Show your favorite Neo-Futurists some love and buy them a beer. Or give them a piece of your mind after buying them beer.
For those of you allergic to bars or not yet old enough to be admitted (Hey, what are you doing on this site? Shouldn’t you be finishing your homework?), the Drinking and Writing monthly radio show comes to WLUW this June.
Drinking & Writing Volume III: To Cure A Hangover opens Saturday night, 7pm at The Hopleaf, 5148 N. Clark, and will be performed at Chicago bars Saturdays through July 1, except for June 10, when the Neo-Futurists present the “Drinking & Writing Festival: Write Til You Puke” at the Hopleaf. Tickets to the show are $10, tickets to the festival are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. The Pub Crawl starts Monday, 2pm at The Fireside, 5739 N. Ravenswood. Full festival schedule is here.
