Chicagoist likes to think we can tell you something you didn’t know about Chicago from time to time. But Marjorie Freed and her blog, chicagoTips, put us to shame when it comes to some of the city’s hidden gems.

For instance, did you know there are secret post offices around Chicago? Neither did we. Secret post offices! This site isn’t the place to go to find out about drink specials and local bands, but our mouth is watering over the new Portuguese muffins (“ports”) that just hit local shelves. Yum!

Freed mixes it up with posts on art, food, gardening, volunteering and travel, including a few notes on her vacation with the grandkids. That’s right, this blogger in the know is a grandmother, thank you very much. Has your grandmother ever tried out a Segway? Yeah, we didn’t think so.
