merlo.gifWhoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, WHOA. Here we were, all ready to post something fascinating on a subject that had to do with loving books; then we hear some butthead(s) burned some books in the Gay and Lesbian section of the Merlo Library on Belmont.

No one’s using the words “hate crime”, but they are using the word “arson”. And really? We’re still reeling from Leslie Pinney’s book banning proposal in Arlington Heights. We’re finding it hard to make the mental room to deal with some butthead(s) burning Gay and Lesbian books in what is basically the only library in Boystown.

The thing is, we don’t think the they did a very good job. First, they started a lame fire that could easily be put out by staffers at the library. Second, even though they ruined about 100 books, it doesn’t seem to have scared anyone much, or even riled many emotions. Only butthead(s) can burn books and not have the world freak out.

So here’s to you book burners, good job ruining perfectly nice books, not scaring anyone, and running away. That’s very brave of you. Heck, at least Pinney had the balls to say what she said and face the music.

Buttheads.
