Facets Blogs The Movies

By Scott Smith in Arts & Entertainment on Jul 10, 2006 7:24PM

While hardly an undiscovered treasure, Facets Multimedia 2006_06_facets.bmpis the ultimate under-the-radar art house theater. It doesn't have the flash of the Landmark or the old Chicago feel of the Music Box. But it makes up for all that with challenging foreign films, lauded independent features and a deep catalog of hard-to-find movies for rental and purchase (we could have saved a lot of time tracking down Out of the Loop, a documentary on the late 80s/early 90s Chicago music scene, if we had made Facets our first stop instead of our last.

Whether it's a summer series on Chicago's sister cities or cheap DVDs we'd actually want to watch, Facets always has something of interest.

And now they even have a blog called Facets Features. We’ve spent some time checking out their entries and have learned all sorts of nifty facts:

* Former Guided By Voices frontman Robert Pollard’s favorite movie is The King of Comedy
* There have been enough movies with head explosions to warrant a top 10 list
* The MPAA still blows

Written by Facets employees, future posts will cover film news and gossip, DVD and film reviews, film crticism and the latest on various Facets happenings. Now if only they could get an RSS feed...
