Balls to the Wall

By Margaret Hicks in Arts & Entertainment on Jul 18, 2006 4:32PM

7_18_Cinderella.jpgWe hate sitting here in our castle, trapped like that long-haired slut, Rapunzel. Would someone come get her already? Her singing is driving us nuts.

In two days, we’re supposed to go to The 2nd Annual Printers' Ball, and we don’t have a darn thing to wear. We got ash and cinder all over the dress we were SUPPOSED to wear, and our stupid stepsisters (they smell like fish), keep asking us to clean the freaking fireplace.

This ball is usually much better than the other balls around here. It’s sponsored by the Poetry Foundation, Poetry Magazine, Make, Newcity, and 2nd Hand, who even printed a special edition in honor of the ball.

It’s not like we can be late either. There’s way too much going on: DJ sets by Punk Planet and Venus start at 8:00PM; True Historians start at 10:00PM; and Baby Teeth at 11:00PM. We can’t believe all the other indie publishers, magazines and writers that are involved with the ball. Anyone who's anyone will be there, including those weird Grimm brothers; they’re a strange pair, but that little one is kind of cute.

It’s a good thing it’s free; there’s no way we could pull together enough doubloons to get in otherwise. And they're giving away tons of free magazines, which is awesome, because magazines cost a lot of doubloons too.

Now where in the hell did we leave that other glass slipper?

You can go to the Printers' Ball on Thurs., July 20th, 8:00PM at Double Door, 1572 N. Milwaukee. The 2nd Annual Printers’ Ball is open to the public, and admission is free. For more information, please call 312.799.8005
