But They're More Popular than the Blackhawks!

2006_08_sports_no_one_finger.jpgLast week, we brought you the great news that Chicago was named the #1 Sports City by The Sporting News. TSN is holding a ceremony prior to Wednesday's White Sox - Yankees game at U.S. Cellular Field to honor our fair city.

Representatives from the Sox, Cubs, Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks will be on hand. However, the Chicago Fire and Chicago Wolves were not invited to participate. That's not cool. Sure, they're not as big in this town as Da Bears, the World Champs or the Lovable Losers. But they're clearly part of the city's sporting passions. And both can outdraw the Blackhawks, who were invited to the event -- although they were left off the magazine's cover that featured Ozzie Guillen, Brian Urlacher, Carlos Zambrano and Kirk Hinrich.

In addition to representatives from the 5 major pro teams, "reigning Arena Football League champion Chicago Rush, the fledgling Chicago Sky of the WNBA and Northwestern and DePaul universities" were also invited. But the Wolves and Fire were left out? If the city's going to be named the top sports town, then all the pro and major college sports teams in town should be able to claim a part of that title. Invite the Wolves. Invite the Fire.

The invites were supposedly limited because the series is entirely sold out and the suite the Sox are giving up for the suite accomodationspost-ceremony party only hold 20, Lesley Hunt, the magazine's manager of editorial promotions said. They couldn't cram two more people in there? The Bears are supposedly passing up the event because it conflicts with a public practice at Soldier Field. So that opens one spot. And couldn't they uninvite the 'Hawks? They're not really a professional team anyway!
