Peter Strazzabosco is a local writer and photographer who can show you the best places for freshwater surfing on the Great Lakes and mountain biking in the Chicago area (ahem, Kettle Moraine). He says the digital camera he recently acquired "excels at intimate shots of greasy edibles." Having looked at his shots for a few minutes, and getting mighty hungry, we wanted to share the goodness with you.

Greasefreak is a loving but unbiased testament to Chicago fast food. Strazzabosco has implemented a four-star rating system based on taste, presentation, and ambience. The foods are limited to the staples of Chicago fast food: burgers, hot dogs, Italian beef, chili, Italian subs, turkey clubs, and gyros. What? No cheesy beef or gravy bread?

Actually, we agree with a lot of Strazzabosco's ratings. The Ramova Grill has absolutely the best chili in the city. And that shot of the hot dogs from Jimmy's Red Hots, at Grand and Pulaski, look the same today as when we were growing up on the northwest side.

You can waste a few hours getting nostalgic at Greasefreak. Or you can do what Chicagoist did and copy the addresses of all those joints we forgot about on the west and northwest sides, and start visiting. Either way, Strazzabosco has put together an amazing site. We'll be checking in periodically to see his new ratings.
