Insuring Musicians Will Rock On

2006_08_brokenarm.jpgWe like living on the edge as much as the next guy, but then we usually have a day job that provides us with health insurance. A little safety net for our rock-n-roll lifestyle. But, what happens if your creative outlet starts to become a career? Most musicians are unlikely to have health insurance and buying it for oneself is expensive. (We just got the price for continuing our health insurance via COBRA - and it's almost $400 per month!) It can also be a little daunting trying to understand just what deductibles, out-of-pocket expenses and emergency visits really mean.

Enter HINT: The Health Insurance Navigation Tool. The Future of Music Coalition has taken a stance to educate artists about the options available to them in the health insurance arena. This service will help musicians understand more clearly just what health insurance covers and what coverage is most beneficial for each musician's individual needs. There are links to articles explaining more clearly just what health insurance does or doesn't do, alliances for low-cost care, or group insurance coverage availability in every state.

The rock-n-roll lifestyle can wreak havoc with a body's system and sometimes it's just nice to be able to go to a doctor and get rid of that ringing in the ears, fix the bump on your head from a fall out of a coconut tree, or to provide an excuse as to why it is necessary to use backing vocals.
