Cubs Hit Rock Bottom

We haven't thought much of the Cubs in recent weeks, as they fell out of contention in the NL Central race. The storylines just keep repeating themselves -- Will Wood/Prior pitch again this year? Will Dusty last until the end of the season? -- that we've just sort of ignored the North Siders.
But when they finally hit rock bottom yesterday, we decided we had to say something. After losing to the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates, who scored the winning run on a wild pitch, the Cubs swapped places with their opponent in the National League basement. Which is only fitting for a team chock full of gimps. Yes, the Cubs are the worst team in the entire NL with their 55 - 83 record and .399 winning percentage.
At least the Cubs didn't have to face this humiliation in front of many fans yesterday. The announced Wrigley Field attendance of 31,494 was the smallest of the year, and many of those announced attendees were more like city patronage employees -- counted as present, but not actually there.
