Green Tie Ball - Fantasy Island

Tickets are still available for one the year's best opportunities at some serious people-watching: The Green Tie Ball.
This year's event - Saturday, September 16, at 8:30 p.m. - is being held at the Charter One Pavilion on Northerly Island and features nearly 100 restaurants, more than 50 premium-brand bars, several stages of bands and deejays, live and silent auctions and casino-style charitable gaming, including blackjack, craps, roulette.
Chicagoist went last year and had a blast. Think what you want about such events - and naturally you good people will and do - but Chicago Gateway Green puts on quite the fete, with top-notch booze and food from some of the city's finest restaurants. There is nothing quite like knowing that we can sample off of the menus from both Smoke Daddy and Carnivale in the same night. And seriously? The people-watching and eavesdropping cannot be beat. Last year we listened in to the conversation of five women in the bathroom trailer as two of them went on and on about everything they were doing that night to "snag a husband."
We shit you not. It was priceless, as we were led to believe that such women were only an urban myth.
Embarrassments to the female gender notwithstanding, it's a rocking good time and worth the ticket price if you're in to this sort of thing, which runs $135 for gala entrance and $250 for VIP. For more information, visit the official event site.
