Oh, to be a 6th grader these days! As part of a $5 million "Technology Immersion Pilot Program," more than 1,700 6th graders will get laptops. The students will get them at the beginning of the year and then when the program is over they'll turn them back in to their school district.

Legislation to create the program was passed in 2004, but it wasn't until the Fiscal Year of 2007 that it got funding. If the program is deemed a success, then hopefully it can be extended for more years.

Chicagoist has seen all the trouble that our supposedly "grown up" coworkers have gotten into with laptops. One woman that sat right next to us dumped here water on her laptop no less than 3 times. We're wondering which relative of the administration got the contract to maintain 1,700 laptops that kids are beating the shit out of every day.
