Air Apparently

Dancrane9_26.jpgYou know that annoying phrase “do what you love, and the money will follow”? We’ve never fallen for it. We love eating cheeseburgers and watching “Survivor,” and we haven't seen a dime.

But Dan Crane has given us hope -- hope that our money-making talent might be just around the corner, and that it could be something we never expected.

Dan Crane is known in his world as Björn Türoque (that’s pronounced Born To Rock). His motto? Make air, not war. Björn Türoque is an air guitar player, one of the best in the world. He has entered ten air guitar competitions and won second place in five of them.

His website gives a good description of how air guitar is judged (“Competitive air guitar is judged on a 4.0-6.0 scale, much like Olympic figure skating”) and has lots of information we didn’t know we needed to know.

Björn Türoque has written a book about his experiences, “To Air is Human.” According to Time Out New York, “In ‘To Air is Human’, Dan Crane (nom d'air Björn Türoque) does for the air guitar world what George Plimpton's gonzo-journalism Paper Lion did for football.”

We're going to have to get this book -- it looks hilarious. We’re willing to throw our money his way because we think he deserves it, for doing what he loves.

You can see Dan Crane on Wed., September 27, 7:30 p.m., at Barnes & Noble, 1441 W. Webster Ave.
