Any Excuse to Work in a Point Break Reference

chicagoist_2006_09_expres.jpgIf bank robbing is the new black, then the Bank of America branch at 205 W. Monroe is the little black party dress, getting worn out from one too many appletini spills and ending up on some stranger's floor. The branch was robbed twice yesterday, first at 11:30 a.m., then again about three and a half hours later after they had reopened. Neither robber actually brandished a weapon, just gave the impression that they had one. Two other robberies happened the same way yesterday, one in Lincoln Park and one on the Northwest side.

Is that standard training for bank tellers during a robbery to just hand over money to anyone who threatens them? We suppose that makes sense. A few dollars in lost cash is worth keeping everyone safe. But if the robbers really did have guns, wouldn't they bust in waving them around like the Ex-Presidents? We know the use of weapon during a robbery makes quite a difference in the charges if you get caught, but bank robbers aren't always known for their discretion, at least not outside the movies.
