Empty Out Your Wallet

2006_09_money.jpgThis week we can help Ticketmaster achieve over $1 billion in fee charges this year with a little something for everyone. Following are some of the shows going on sale this weekend.

Diplo
We were sad when Diplo didn't back M.I.A. last fall, so this is our chance to see him spin in all his glory. On sale Saturday at noon at the Metro Box Office, or feed the man.
Smart Bar, Nov. 24, 10:00 p.m., $15, $21+

Alejandro Escovedo
Robbie Fulks
Both these guys can take us from punk to glam to folk and then back and we never even know what's happening, because it's a great time. We're not sure who will out-legend the other, but it's worth talking about until the show. Tickets are available at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Park West, Nov. 3, 8:00 p.m., $20, 18+

Robyn Hitchcock & The Venus 3 (Peter Buck, Bill Rieflin, Scott McCaughey)
This brings back memories of ditching high school and driving four hours to go see R.E.M. with opener Robyn Hitchcock. Those were the days. With almost R.E.M. as Hitchcock's band, An Aquarium Drunkard states that "it's great to hear new material in that older Hitchcockian style." The album Ole Tarantula doesn't come out until October 3rd, but be sure to get tickets at noon on Saturday for this treat.
Metro, Nov. 18, 7:30 p.m., $23.50, 18+

Gob Iron featuring Jay Farrar & Anders Parker
This show has Anders opening with a solo set, Jay following, and then both coming together as Gob Iron. Gob Iron takes American folk standards and fucks around with them by creating new lyrics or arrangements. A pretentious, alt-country, masturbatory evening for those of us who get off on that sort of thing! Tickets go on sale at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Park West, Nov. 5, 7:30 p.m., $16.50, Ages not listed.

Barbra Streisand
Calling all Sugar Daddies and Mommies! Your young lover will gladly go along with you to this fabulous show, but only if we get the $750 tickets, a new decor for our condo that you put us up in, and a new designer outfit (head-to-toe including accessories). Wink. Wink. Nod. Nod. These tickets don't go on sale until Monday, so work it this weekend, girlfriends!
United Center, Nov. 9, 7:30 p.m., $100-$750, All Ages
