I Tried to Shoot the Sheriff

chicagoist_200610_policehat.jpgChicagoist doesn't plan on fighting any police officers any time soon, or fighting anyone for that matter, unless of course you try to take away our coffee. But if we did, we definitely wouldn't grab the cop's gun and point it at his gut. If you're stupid enough to do that, well then, you deserve to get shot.

That's just what happened to a man in the 8100 block of S. Colfax on the Southeast Side last night, after police stopped him for driving a reported stolen car. When two officers began handcuffing him, he resisted, then grabbed a third officer's gun as he tried to help. He pointed it at the policeman's side as the struggle continued, until one of the other officers shot him. The man is now in the hospital with non-life threatening wounds (aside from his defective brain), awaiting charges.
