It's the Time of the Season for Media Consolidation!

Many local news outlets are finding ways to consolidate the news, and it appears that the Daily Herald is not going to be left behind. The suburban newspaper has formed "an allegiance" (that's one tick below a fellowship) with the local ABC/Disney-owned television station, ABC7.
After all, why have just one measly way to reach consumers when you could hit them at every angle with the same messages instead? Well, actually, that's probably just a lot of rabble-rousing, but we will still be curious to see what this "sharing of resources" really amounts to. The suburban newspaper is the third-largest publication in Illinois, but that hasn't stopped certain columnists of the other two papers from scoffing at their influence (find function: "when was the last time you" or "read anything in the Daily Herald").
Aside from side projects of the long-term kind, the alliance will mean a stronger Daily Herald presence online, and all the interactive stuff that goes with it. The Daily Herald's assistant VP of something boiled the attraction to the deal down nicely to "being with number one." Well, there ya go.
