Pizano's Makes The Cut

By Chuck Sudo in Food on Oct 13, 2006 7:00PM

2006_10_pizanos.gifWe found this in today's USA Today, which was surprising, since the subject was pizza and they resisted the temptation to print it with a corresponding pie chart. Anyhoo, Chicago Magazine dining editors Jeff Ruby and Penny Pollack list Pizano's as one of ten great places in the country to get a slice of pizza. The Sun-Times complements the USA Today story with a "how does it feel to be honored" article with Pizano's founder Rudy Malnati, Jr. Malnati laments in the Sun-Times piece that thin crust outsells deep dish by a three-to-one margin. That could almost be taken as a point of shame for the man whose family practically created deep dish (Malnati's father, Rudy Sr., founded Pizzeria Uno, and his brother Lou is best known for his own eponymous chain of pizzerias).

Now, we love Ruby and Pollack, but here's the rub. They've been covering food in the city long enough to know that they're opening a can of worms here. Granted, Pizano's is pretty good, but anyone and everyone has an opinion on where to find the best pizza in the city. So, in the chance that one of them might be reading this, let them have your suggestions. And be polite doing so.
