Project Runway Makes Us Believe Again

By Joanna Miller in Miscellaneous on Oct 19, 2006 9:30PM

There’s been a lot of talk around the Chicagoist offices about last night’s season finale of Project Runway (SPOILER ALERT) and, as usual, the whole debate has devolved into a mess of sequins, chiffon and turtle poop, although someone’s still turned on.

2006_10_19runway.jpgUs? We were pleasantly surprised that Jeffrey Sebelia took home the big prize. Sure, he was kind of a dick once or twice during the season and his neck tattoo is a little gross, but it’s about the clothes and his were almost all killer. Love the zipper dress. Take that, Angela’s mom.

And after last season's disappointing finish, it was refreshing to see "fashion forward" designs back on top.

Lovable Michael Knight and Uli Herzner were just as cute and charming as ever, but their collections just didn’t quite deliver. We liked a lot of what Uli did, but her stuff lacked the “wow” factor. Michael’s brought the “wow,” but in a bad ‘70s hoochie safari kind of way. Yikes.

Scary mommy Laura Bennett’s frumpalicious collection was more of the same, and her lame attempt to discredit Jeffrey seemed like sour grapes from a less-experienced contestant. Sure, the woman can sew a mean sequin, if you’re into that sort of thing.

The Watcher dished about the finale with Tim Gunn and his fabulous vocabulary.

Oh, and why weren’t we invited to this party?
