7-Eleven Won't Deal Cocaine

Chicagoist wondered when the Cocaine energy drink would hit the shelves here, and it seems we’ve got some more waiting to do. The drink has gotten a lot of hype, but if no one is willing to carry the beverage, all the press in the world won’t matter.
The Sun-Times reported 7-Eleven is telling its franchise owners not to stock the drink. ''Our merchandising team believes the product's name promotes an image which we didn't want to be associated with,'' Margaret Chabris, 7-Eleven spokeswoman, told the Sun-Times.
The decision apparently comes after 7-Eleven received complaints from parents. And, along with the convenience store, many Chicago bars and clubs aren’t planning on stocking the high-caffeine concoction, either.
Redux Beverages, the company behind Cocaine, still maintains the drink doesn’t glorify the drug and that kids understand the difference.
In the meantime, Cocaine is expected to soon be available online at Amazon. However, we can’t imagine too many people going out of their way to place orders. Looks like the buzz is over before it started.
