Weekend Jaunts: Sunday Edition

By Timmy Watson in Arts & Entertainment on Oct 29, 2006 4:37PM

Take some time today to get out of the house after the Bears game today. We were riding on the train this week and overheard a gentleman describing his love for the Bears. "I'm so obsessed with the Bears -- it is, like, all I can think about. Even when I'm at work, I'm always e-mailing my friends and asking them, 'What do you think about the Bears, who is your favorite Bear?'" We, too, have Bears fever; to keep your mind off the Bears after the game, here a few things going on around town. Feel free to add events in the comments section.

  • At 4:30 p.m. today at the Swedish American Museum Center, 5211 N. Clark, Marjane Satrapi will be reading from her latest graphic novel, Chicken with Plums. Satrapi offers a glimpse at life in Iran in a way that attempts to help those in the West understand Iranian and Muslim culture in a way that is beautiful and intriguing. Her new volume delves into her family history and is a follow-up to the wonderful Persepolis.
  • The MCA, 220 E. Chicago, is hosting Sonic Impact this weekend. The event includes music from area ensembles as well as lectures and workshops. For a list of times and performances check the MCA site; Sonic Impact is from 10 a.m - 10 p.m.
  • Califone, currently touring for their recent release, "Roots and Crowns", will be at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia. Bitter Tears will open, and tickets are $12.
