I Pass on I-Pass No Longer

chicagoist_200610_ipass.jpgIf you've been holding out on getting an I-Pass, now's the time to get one. Every toll plaza in the state now has open road tolling, so I-Pass users can drive straight past all the suckers paying cash without slowing down. The final toll plaza to be converted reopened on the Tri-State Tollway in Waukegan.

Chicagoist finally got our own I-Pass this year after holding out under the theory that we don't drive out to the suburbs enough. But we make just enough jaunts to Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin to make it worthwhile, and being able to breeze through the clogged toll plazas feels like we're cheating. Unless you live in fear of the unblinking eye of Big Brother tracking your movements around 294, there's really no reason not to get one now.

In a perfect world of transit (some people call it Europe), you could take a train everywhere. Unfortunately here you can't, so you might as well reduce the amount of time you have to spend idling on the Skyway. You can order an I-Pass here with an initial deposit of $50.
