Mayor Daley Has a Lot on His Mind

By Scott Smith in News on Nov 1, 2006 4:00PM

Being the mayor of a big city can be stressful. Sometimes you need to vent a little to someone who will listen. Luckily, Mayor Daley 2006_11_daley.jpghas lots of folks like that. They're called the press corps.

For instance, Da Mare wants to see more college dorms downtown because nothing makes the Loop seem young and vibrant like a bunch of kids in hoodies smoking and text-messaging. He also thinks faculty and staff should live in the new facility, which sounds like an 80s teen comedy just waiting to happen. Studio apartments in the current superdorm go for $1139 a month, which sounds like a lot, but since each room is furnished and has more amenities than the average South Loop renter, we’re thinking about re-enrolling.

Also, he’s irked at Jesse Jackson Jr. for criticizing him about the departure of former City Treasurer Judy Rice. Jackson says Rice left because she couldn’t pull her own weight. Daley says she left to care for her sick father. Meanwhile, Jackson is having trouble finding a token Latino to run as his treasurer.

Finally, Daley wants voters to know that guns are bad and the state minimum wage needs to be raised by a dollar. Wait? Isn’t that racist?
