Slim's Shady

06_11_04_gangster.GIFIn the 1700 block of North Lockwood, Lamell "Slim" Burns, a leader of the New Breed gang, stabbed himself 20-30 times in an attempt to existentially allude the police. The police had to use a stun gun to keep Slim from killing himself, he is in critical condition at Stroger hospital.

According to the Sun Times article, a gang war between the New Breed gang and the Traveling Vice Lords have claimed the lives of 19 people this year. Slim and Melvin "Ben Ben" Martin are suspected of orchestrating the attempted murder of a rival gang member at a Humboldt Park intersection. Police Officers intervened and shot two of the hit men.

The New Breed gang originated in the Illinois prison system and their history is a little murky. According to a document uncovered in the trunk of a member, the gang dates back over a 1,000 years and originated in Sicily. The document also instructs members to follow the three "Ls" of Love, Life, and Loyalty. We aren't sure what following "Life" means, but we are pretty sure Slim wasn't adhering to it. He may have, however, been following the third L, Loyalty.

The Traveling Vice Lords are an interesting group, definitely the only gang we have seen with a website. The website contains mostly pictures and freaky ass drawings. The Traveling Vice Lords are a faction of the larger Vice Lords gang. According to Wikipedia, the Vice Lords originated in the St. Charles Juvenile Correctional Facility. They have always controlled the majority of Chicago's West Side and part of a larger network, knows as Peoples.
