Christ's Triumphant Return

We know it seems we’ve been awful hard on Macy’s, but it seems they give us fodder on a daily basis. They’ve even got the stamina for twice a day sometimes. Macy’s, Wal-Mart, Kohl’s and we assume many others to follow, will be bringing back the term “Christmas” this year.
In response to some heat from groups like the American Family Association (AFA) and The Committee to Save Merry Christmas (CSMC), these stores have decided the word Holiday doesn’t quite invoke those warm fuzzy feelings of greed and spending ourselves into massive debt. CSMC put a lot of pressure on Macy’s last year, and the company didn’t even have a policy specifically avoiding the word Christmas.
We aren’t as concerned with the semantics of the whole Holiday vs. Christmas showdown as we are with the strong-arming by these groups. Sorry, Wal-Mart, we don’t think sucking up to the Big Guy will get you any closer to redemption. You should know the restoration of man comes through the satisfactions and merits of Christ. It doesn’t come from a severed cartoon head with a Santa hat on that says “Merry Christmas” instead of “Happy Holidays.”
There is one stalwart in the Holi(day) war, the consumer electronics giant, Best Buy. A Best Buy spokesman stated, "We are going to continue to use the term holiday because there are several holidays throughout that time period, and we certainly need to be respectful of all of them," said Dawn Bryant. The AFA quickly came to action. A day after the article came out, the AFA sent out a petition to their massive e-mail list to ask Best Buy to include the word Christmas in their stores. On their Web site the AFA states, “But while Best Buy, the largest consumer electronics company in the nation, will not be mentioning Christmas, they sure do want the shopping dollars from those who remember the Reason for the season.”
