The Big Ten Season wraps up this weekend, and after Saturday's 100th meeting between Norhtwestern and Illinois, one team will have earned its second Big Ten win of the season and moved out of the basement of the Big Ten. The two teams meet on Saturday in Evanston at noon.
Northwestern has two out-of-conference wins, against Mid American Conference teams Miami University and Eastern Michigan. Their lone Big Ten win came two weeks ago on the road versus Iowa. Illinois, on the other hand, has only won two games this season. They won their season opener against Eastern Illinois and also beat Michigan State on the road in September. Since then, the Illini have lost six straight. Illinois historically has the advantage in the overall series 51-43-5, but Northwestern has won the last three match-ups. Chicagoist is picking Northwestern over Illini this weekend.
We think there is a bigger Big Ten rivalry game on Saturday — we just can't quite remember which two teams are involved. If only there was just a bit more media coverage to jog our memory....
