Weekend Jaunts: Saturday Edition

By Timmy Watson in Arts & Entertainment on Nov 18, 2006 2:00PM

With the holiday season fast approaching we have noticed our organized and more responsible friends becoming busier and busier. We like to avoid the hubbub and we are guessing you do too. It is time to get out in that weather we love so much. As always, feel free to add more events in the comments section.

Update: We originally mentioned Circus Cats at the Mars Gallery, thanks to a tip from one of our readers we realized this event is actually on Sunday. We will provide the details for the event tomorrow.

  • 06_11_18_portastatic.gifWe have many fond memories of dancing like an idiot to Mac McCaughan and Superchunk. Tonight McCaughan and his equally as awesome band, Portastatic are coming to Schubas, 3159 N. Southport. While Portastatic isn't quite as dance inducing as Superchunk, the lyrics and music is still breathtaking.
  • While we love us some Winter here, it seems some organizations are stuck in that "it's too cold to be outside" frame of mind. We will let the Architecture River Cruise slide, we guess. This weekend is your last chance this year to catch the cruise, which runs at 10, noon, and 2 p.m.
  • The Chicagoist staff, at our super secret lair, are always batting around ideas on how to further engage and stimulate our brilliant readers. Northwestern students in the Masters of Creative Writing program are offering free writing workshops all day today and tomorrow. They are accepting donations to benefit Young Chicago Authors and the workshop is taking place at the Evanstan campus, 405 Church St. You can register by emailing Wisenberg@northwestern.edu.
