Baby Sauda! Unveiled at Last!

By Joanna Miller in Miscellaneous on Nov 22, 2006 5:04PM

2006_11_22okapi1.jpgWe’re so over celebrity baby gossip, but there is one recent birth we’re excited about. Semliki, an okapi at Brookfield Zoo, gave birth to a baby girl in September, and the zoo officially announced her arrival today. (But really, how like a celebrity to try to keep it under wraps. We knew we saw a bump, Semliki!)

Following in Brangelina’s footsteps, Semliki named her baby Sauda, a Swahili word that means “dark beauty.” Hey, at least it sounds pretty, which is the most celebrity babies can hope for in a name, right Pilot Inspektor Riesgraf Lee?

There’s already much discussion about how the baby looks. She’s got stripes like a zebra, but the animal’s actually related to the giraffe. Our advice? Schedule some play dates with Suri Cruise – she’s totally been there.

Sauda is expected to make a public debut in the spring, but look for a "Vanity Fair" cover soon.
