Fold, Snip, Winter!

The weather outside isn't frightful ... yet. A little snow never hurt getting in the mood for the holidays and neither does creating a few crafts. A tradition that we stumbled upon in Chicago is the annual snowflake-making night at the Hideout.
The snowflakes adorn the ceiling from wall to wall during the winter months at the h/o reminding us of those simpler days when we created art with safety scissors. It’s easy to get intimidated by those who clearly grew up with their scissors in a holster, ready at a moment’s notice, who create the elaborate snowflakes that we can only stare at in awe without ever being able to duplicate. Then, we take a deep breath and remember that all snowflakes differ from one another and that no one loses when we’re having fun.
The h/o provides the paper, scissors, and snacks. All we have to add is the labor and creativity. It’s quite fun to regress and let the inner child go wild, along with all the other patrons. Snowflakes will be made and hung all night long. Whether we choose to discuss immigrant integration at 7:00 p.m., or cut away to the Devil in the Woodpile at 9:30 p.m., the cheerful sound of scissors snipping will be in full force tonight, announcing that winter is on her way.
