Friday Brings Overnight Parking Freezeout

By Jocelyn Geboy in News on Nov 30, 2006 5:18PM

There's hardly anything worse than coming out of a building to find your car ... gone. At first panicked flush, there's the thought — stolen? But if you're anything like we are, and you've never owned anything in the realm of new, the next thought is — where's the sign? The hydrant? The yellow curb? How could I possibly have screwed this up!?

Get ready, folks. Friday marks meteorological winter, which brings the overnight winter parking ban on many major streets in the city. From 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. on these streets, parking is prohibited, and you will be ticketed and towed. Note! This occurs regardless of any snowfall. It can be clear sailing snow-wise, and you'll still get the nab. The restriction lasts until April 1, 2007.

2006_11snowroute.jpgAlso taking effect (and sometimes on the same streets) are the snow routes, which means when there are two or more inches of snow, those streets are no parking, period. Cars can be ticketed and relocated. Although, if there are two or more inches of snow, we'd be interested to see where you'd get relocated — what, with all those dibs and all....

And the snow routes just might be an issue on Friday, because the local weathercasters are predicting anywhere from a potential two to six inches. The "winter storm watch" warning is out, and we are just hoping it's sensationalism. We'll take a little blustery bullshit rather than the actual thing. God knows what the CTA will do if it has to handle extra traffic.
