Weekend Jaunts: Saturday Edition

Well, we have been receiving holiday gift lists this week from everyone we’ve ever met, that means we should get out the credit card and decide who’s been naughty and who’s been nice. As we mentioned earlier in the week, there are plenty of art shops and fairs this to satisfy those shopping urges. Along with some shopping (don't forget our gift guide), here are a few events to keep you going strong. As always feel free to add more in the comments section.
- The goal of DEPART-ment is to provide "All things handcrafted. No brand-names. No foreign-assembly. No questionable-ethics." The mantra of this place is incredible, they are attempting to create a new shopping experience while simultaneously making you feel like you've been coming here for years. Check it out today from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Open-End, 2000 W. Fulton.
- Don't forget to check out the Lincoln Square Holiday Festival at 4731 N. Lincoln today. Horse-drawn sleigh rides around the square run from 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., the lighting of the tree will then take place at 4:30 p.m., because that's when it gets dark here.
- Tonight at the Velvet Lounge, 67 E. Cermak, the Henry Grimes Trio with Fred Anderson will be playing dense, emotional jazz. Grimes played with Benny Goodman in the 50's and disappeared for almost 30 years. And you thought Axl was gone long? The show is $15 and starts at 9 p.m.
