Mustaches for Kids - Week 1
By Matt Wood in Miscellaneous on Dec 5, 2006 2:38PM
Week One of the Mustaches For Kids growing season is on the books, and the results, encouraging or horrifying as they may be, are starting to become clear. Wispy crustaches and unexplained bald patches aside, the important part is that there are nearly 40 brave fellows growing a fresh 'stache to raise money for the Off the Street Club. Chicagoist attended the first mustache checkpoint last night at the Lincoln Tap Room and met four guys we were at least partly responsible for convincing to participate, including Brian and Nick from the just tipped-off NBA blog, Defense Wins Championships, and Fook from Q101, who is running his own mustache blog, complete with a time-lapse video of his progress.
Our own Matt Wood, a.k.a. Generalissimo Humberto Alfonzo III, is happy to report that his mustache, Sanchez, is coming in very nicely. He's posted photos on his Flickr page so you can follow the day-by-day progress. He even thinks he has an inside track on being crowned Mustache King of Chicago in a few weeks. Confident that he could produce decent coverage from his previous experiments with goatees and beards, Matt says the first week's results show that he has fewer distractions than the rest of the growers. "I'm bald, man," he says. "All those other guys have to worry about their hair too, but I can just concentrate on the 'stache." He added, "The rest of those fools are Adam Morrison, and I'm Ving Rhames."
Remember, you can support Matt or any other grower by donating via the PayPal link on the M4K homepage. We think $20 is a solid donation, but anything from $5 on up is welcome.
