The Culver's "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" Burger

We took a gander at this short news story from ABC 7 (via AP) and thought to ourselves, "They can't be serious."
Oh, but it's true. Apparently, Culver's has weighed in on the trans fat debate and announced that they'll stop using trans fat oils in their restaurants, a move they've been working on for a couple years. We'll repeat that for you who think that we made a mistake. The "home of the butterburger" is getting rid of trans fats. What, are they just going to cook everything in butter, now?
Actually, we'd welcome that.
A fellow Chicagoista made the analogy this morning that Culver's speaking out against trans fats is like Walter Cronkite speaking out against the Vietnam War: once you've lost them, you've lost the country. We guess that as soon as City Council hears about this, they'll get that Second City chip on their collective shoulder and pass the trans fat ban that Ed Burke's been slowly hydrogenating with the help of the restaurant lobby. It's one thing for City Council to waffle while New York City grabs the glory again. It's another thing entirely to let New York and a restaurant chain beat them to the punch. Someone get Burt Natarus involved, if only so it gives us an excuse to run this photo again.
