Weekend Jaunts: Saturday Edition
By Timmy Watson in News on Dec 9, 2006 2:40PM
We walked outside yesterday and smelled the slightest hint of charcoal. The smell immediately sparked a memory of, in August, when we would spend many a lazy Saturday walking around, perhaps stop at Pontiac, see Gene Lee ride by on a skateboard in some leopard-print hot pants. Don’t get us wrong — we love the Holiday season and all its snowy white beauty — we just miss days lasting past 4:30 p.m. and vodka lemonades. Well, today we bring back a little of that summer magic with some festivals and fairs. As always, feel free to add more events in the comments section.
- Last night the Go West Winter Fest got things started. The festival, located on Chicago Avenue between Halsted and California, will feature carriage rides, Santa, and free bubbly and wine! Participating retailers will be offering free Barefoot Wine, and be sure to catch the trolley for a free ride and free Barefoot Bubbly. The event is from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m., and the trolley will make two trips down Chicago Ave.
- The Renegade Craft Fair is back this weekend for a special winter edition. The fair, which started in Chicago in 2003, has branched out to other cities and is now testing the icy waters of a December fair. From noon – 5 p.m. you can check out over 100 vendors, grab some food, and hang out with the 3 rooms they will have with DJ’s. The craft fair, which is usually in Wicker Park, will be in Pulaski Park, 1419 W. Blackhawk, this time around.
- See some tree-lighting goodness at the Clark by the Park Holiday Shop and Stroll. In addition to the tree lighting, you can catch carolers, and, most importantly, sales. The shop and stroll is from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Clark between Diversey and Armitage. Click here for some coupons from participating retailers.
