Mustaches for Kids 'Stache Bash 2006

Mustaches For Kids Chicago wrapped up its growing season with the first annual 'Stache Bash last night at Smart Bar in Wrigleyville. Mustaches were compared, awards were given, and not the least bit homoerotic dancing took place. The official tally is pending, but the mustachioed men estimate that they raised over $10,000 this year for the Off the Street Club, Chicago's oldest boys and girls club.
Sadly, Chicagoist's own Matt Wood didn't take home any awards for his facial hair, but he's proud that his results were more Magnum P.I. than Adam Morrison. The real honor of the night goes to Eamon Daly, who was crowned the Abe Froman of Mustaches for single-handedly raising over $1,300 for the cause. Chicagoist also wants to recognize the M4K organizer, Timothy Sondreal, for the fantastic job he did with the event. We know he wouldn't want to be singled out, but it takes a special talent to convince 35 strangers to grow mustaches from scratch, and he deserves every compliment for his dedication and enthusiasm.
We had a lot of fun with this event, but all joking aside, we want to thank the Chicagoist readers for humoring us and supporting this event, at least in spirit. One of the growers shared a story last night that drove home why we were there. He had been at a party over the weekend and met someone who had gone to the Off the Street Club every day as a kid, and told him that it literally saved his life. Growing a mustache and obsessing about it on the internet might be self-indulgent and silly, but we slept well last night knowing we had helped a place like that.
