Vote for Chicago's Local MTV2 VJ

By Julene McCoy in Arts & Entertainment on Dec 20, 2006 8:40PM

Right after Thanksgiving, MTV2 had a local talent search for a new VJ. Four finalists were chosen that day, and ten other lucky kids were chosen to compete online for the fifth spot. Voting ends today and the local VJ will be announced on January 1.

The final five will be judged on enthusiasm, charisma, visual appeal and persuasiveness of audition. The auditions of the VJ hopefuls are here. Check them out and vote until 11:59 p.m.

Chicagoist can sometimes be a stickler for details, so we actually read what becoming this local VJ means to the winner. It definitely doesn’t sound as glamorous as we had pictured in our mind. According to the website, the VJ will “receive the opportunity to be videotaped for a segment scheduled to be broadcast locally” but doesn’t guarantee that it will air. The VJ also gets a whopping $150 to help defray costs to get them to the studio where this videotaping will occur.

Does a taping for MTV2 that never airs count towards one’s fifteen minutes of fame? We’ll meditate on that instead of the sound of one hand clapping when trying to achieve enlightenment this week.
