Roller Derby and Beer

12_27_06_chitown_sirens.jpgChicagoist admits to being intrigued by the All Women's Roller Derby Leagues here in Chicago. We have written about both the Windy City Rollers and the Chi*Town Sirens. What Chicagoist really likes is when you pair the action of Roller Derby with a visit to your local pub. That is what the Chi*Town Sirens are doing this season.

On Thursday night from 6:30 to 9:30 roller-derby fans can meet the women of the Killopatras and the Wheelers at a Meet N Greet at Schuba's. There is no cover for the event and attendees will be able to enjoy drink specials, a DJ, and highlights from the first bout of the season.

This year, fans are invited to visit select sponsor bars for a drink prior to boarding a bus that delivers them to the Lynwood Roller Rink, home of the Sirens. While fans are invited to bring along a road soda on the bus, it is BYOB so come prepared. The tickets to the bout are $12 (bought online) and the bus fare is $8. The Siren's three sponsor bars, The Cobra Lounge (235 N. Ashland), The Globe pub (1957 W. Irving Park) and Schuba's (3159 N. Southport) will offer shuttle buses. The bus ticket can be bought online or at the pub.

The Siren's all-woman flat track roller derby league consists of four teams: Thunderdames, Ultraviolent, Killopatras and the Wheelers. The 2007 schedule kicked off in December with the Thunderdames beating the Ultra Violet 80-46. Bouts are scheduled monthly with the next bout, "Ring in the Bruise Year", featuring Killopatras vs. Wheelers on January 7.
