Weekend Jaunts: Saturday Edition
By Timmy Watson in Arts & Entertainment on Jan 6, 2007 3:25PM
That time of the year is over, we have gorged ourselves on turkey and mashed potatoes and we wouldn’t mind a little break from the family, so this weekend is the perfect time to break back into the action.
- Normally scheduled during some inclement weather, Schubas MS Pub Crawl falls on a nice January day in Chicago, where birds will be chirping and flowers blooming (see: glaciers melting). In its 10th year, Schubas continues its commitment to fighting MS with a crawl beginning at Schubas, 3159 N. Southport, at 2 pm and traveling north on Southport through 8 bars before ending at Mystic Celt at 8:45 p.m. Tickets are $35 at the door and you get a sweet souvenir mug!
- We pretty much emptied out the bank account getting everyone stuff from the Chicagoist Gift Guide, so we are especially interested in free things happening around town. A live art show is going on at Dulcenea Performance Arts Center and Elixir Bar, 1431 N. Milwaukee. As we mentioned, this is a free show and features Ken Klopack, Anne Heisler and July creating large canvas paintings while the Analog Addicts spin. The show starts at 10 p.m. and will probably run until 3 a.m.
- It seems every channel we turn to in the past few weeks has some sort of college bowl game on, so it may be a good idea to give your testosterone a break. Head to AMC Loews Pipers Alley, 1608 N. Wells, to catch Notes on a Scandal. This film, based on the book by Zoe Heller, is the story of an art teacher having an affair with one of her students. The story is through an older confidante, who is played by the incredible Judy Dench.
