Bears Open Playoffs This Weekend

Chicagoist knows where we'll be on Sunday — parked in front of our new 46" LCD TV that we bought in order to better watch our Bears. We have a feeling you'll also be similarly positioned on Sunday, too. That's because the Bears will host the Seattle Seahawks in their first playoff game, following a first-round bye. Seattle made it past the first round because of a botched field goal by the Dallas Cowboys last weekend.
It seems like we've been waiting forever for the playoffs to finally get here, after a 7-0 start made us believe, and then Rex Grossman's roller coaster play made us fear the worst come playoff time.
While we get pretty heated up over Cubs vs. Sox come the fairer weather of summer, and we all loved the Bulls when MJ led them to six titles, Chicago is a Bears town first and foremost. That's one reason that everybody in this town is abuzz.
Da Mere is publically expressing his confidence in Da Bears, having wagered with Seattle's mayor on the game. Daley has bet an assortment that includes Ditka's pork chops, Gibsons’ steaks, Jays potato chips, Gino’s pizza, Garrett’s popcorn, and a whole bunch of other Chicago culinary specialties perfect for watching foodball. In return, Seattle's mayor has put up an assortment of salmon, cheese, microbew beer, wine and Starbucks coffee — perfect for ... well, a night at Ravinia. Culinary proof that Chicago is the true football town!
The MSM has its expected wall-to-wall coverage of the upcoming game, with both the Sun-Times and Tribune chock full of analysis, predictions and questions about Rex Grossman.
While the S-T sports guys all seem to believe that "Good Rex" will show up on Sunday, we're not so confident.
Not that we believe the Bears will lose! We just think that the Bears will win in spite of Rex. Or, to put it another way, Rex won't blow it for us. Bears 24 - Seahawks 21.
Now for one final piece of pregame inspiration, courtesy of Red Eye — a video of Da Coach singing "Bear Down, Chicago Bears." Well, sorta....
