The Place to Be Was TECH Cocktail 3

2007_01_todd_benjy_sm.jpgMuch like the last TECH Cocktail we attended, last night's TECH Cocktail 3 was a great success. Unlike last time, there were no limos stolen, but we did hear that if you stayed around long enough you'd have witnessed a minor incident where someone caught fire (?). Oh, the drama.

We were happy for the success of Tech Cocktail 2, but were a little worried that the popularity of the event may backfire on it. Like people might say, "That was a great event, but it was so packed," and not want to go to the next one. Not so. Not so at all! We're not exactly sure how many tech enthusiasts attended the event (probably 500 - 550), but 750 people RSVP'd. It was FULL.

2007_01_techcocktail_glowingdrinks.jpgA highlight of the party were some 3-foot-tall ice sculptures in the shape of frogs, sponsored by SingleHop, that were used to make the strongest appletinis that we've ever tasted. The drinks were served in glow-in-the-dark glasses and everyone had glow-in-the-dark wristbands on. It was pretty trippy. Chicagoist is not a lightweight, by any means, but we had trouble finishing our drink. We suspect it was straight vodka. Not to worry, there was a $2,500 tab at the bar to begin with and when that ran out, midPhase put down a few grand more, so we easily cozied up and got a beer.

TECH Cocktail 3 was a fun time, and we met a lot of really great people. The crowd was very diverse — we met people behind our favorite websites, local startups, big companies like IBM and Deloitte, bloggers, investors, entrepreneurs, and even mainstream media. And, since we were in Amira, a bar located in NBC Tower, NBC had a cameraman there filming.

2007_01_techcocktail.gifWhat it comes down to is this: If you want to meet anyone who is anyone in technology in the midwest, TECH Cocktail is the place to be.
