Watch What You Eat (Very Carefully)

Chicagoist has a weakness for peanuts, especially in their butter incarnation. From our early days we gobbled down many a Payday and Reese’s Cups. We went mad a few years ago jonesing for Tagalong and Do-Si-Do Girl Scout cookies when they weren’t in season.. (The closest we could find to that glorious, mellow peanut butter was Nutter Butters.)
So it is with great concern that we ask you fellow peanut lovers not to consume any Little Debbie Nutty Bars. A nationwide recall hit home on Wednesday when McKee Foods Corp., parent company of Little Debbie, stated that the suspect bars may contain small metal particles. Ouch. Five cartons of the recalled batch made their way to Lombard between Monday and Wednesday, while two single-serving packages ended up on the North Side. So far no injuries or intestinal abnormalities have resulted from ingesting any Nutty Bars; the discovery of the particles was internal. Double ouch.
Considering the relatively small amount of product in question, rounding up the contaminated snacks shouldn’t be too difficult. The grocery industry doesn’t appear to be particularly worried. According to one Lombard storeowner, Nutty Bars aren’t exactly flying off the shelves: “They’re not a Twinkie or a Hostess cupcake,” says he. Triple ouch.
