Your Help Is Needed

By Rachelle Bowden in Miscellaneous on Feb 19, 2007 12:44PM

It's that time of year again! Chicagoist would like to add several more people to our staff to fill in some gaps in coverage and make the site even better. If you're interested in writing about food, music, books & literature or general Chicago topics, let us know. Also, we're looking to add 2-3 more interviewers (for real this time!) so if you're good at grilling people and writing about it, please apply.

2006_08_apply.jpgSpecific positions are listed below. If you're interested in any of them, meet the qualifications, can make the time commitment, and would like to join the Chicagoist team, email chicagoistapply(at)gmail(dot)com with the position in
the subject line. In the email, tell us about yourself and why you'd be good on that beat, and throw in a sample post if you like.

Interviews
Chicagoist is looking to add 2-3 contributors to conduct interviews. Duties include contacting potential subjects, arranging the meetings/phone calls/online rendezvous, then conducting, transcribing, and editing the interview. Interviewers will be expected to conduct and publish at least one new interview every 2-3 weeks. Ideal candidates will have some experience conducting interviews, whether through work, journalism school, academic research, or freelance assignments, and should be familiar with using some type of recording device.

Books & Literature
We need someone who knows how to read to cover Books and Literature. When a big, famous author comes to town or a great new book about Chicago (or written by a Chicagoan) gets released, our readers need to know. If you can knock out two posts a week about readin’ then let us know.

North Side Food and Drink
Chicagoist would like to add two new contributors to our Food and Drink team. First off, we need someone whose love of food is devoted to the independent, affordable neighborhood restaurant and bar. We'd like this new person to focus on the far northwest side (think west of Pulaski, north of Fullerton as a guideline for boundaries). Ideally, this person will contribute two entries per week with one being a review of a restaurant or bar. Second, we're also looking for someone to write about places to find cheap groceries, produce, cheeses, meats, cookware and kitchen appliances. We're looking at 1-2 posts a week from this contributor as well.

Music
We’re looking to add two new writers to our music team. One should be well versed in the world of popular music and hip-hop. You know, you’re a basic rock and/or roll know-it-all that loves the performers on the radio while feeling the need to trumpet the virtues of bands that are not. The other should enjoy writing about the “finer” side of music. They should be familiar with a wide range; everything from the sounds that fill concert halls with glorious noise to thump that shakes up the blues clubs. And hey, if you’re the sort of person who digs and knows just as much about the punk rock as you do the classical, then that’s even better! If you fit any of the above profiles, and can commit to 2-3 posts about the wide world of music in Chicago, then let us know.

General Contributors
Finally, we'd like to add a few more contributors to write on a daily basis on general subjects (things that aren't sports, music, film, food, arts, politics — and there are a lot of them!). Most likely you'll be posting on hot news topics of the day.

If you'd like to apply for any of these postitions, send an email to chicagoistapply(at)gmail(dot)com and indicate the position you're applying for in the subject line. In the email, tell us about yourself and why you'd be good on that beat, and throw in a sample post if you like. Please only apply if you are able to write quality posts for the site as well as make the time commitment needed every week to research posts and to write them.
