Snap Out of It

Spring is just around the corner, but that means that we still have just enough winter weather to push cabin fever into high gear. Fear not, we here at Chicagoist will gladly provide you with some activities that get you out of the house, but also keep you warm — a little something to pass the time until we can put that parka away for the season.

Get out of the cold and into some art. The Museum of Contemporary Art, in preparation for its fortieth anniversary, has gathered all of the best photography on hand for MCA EXPOSED: Defining Moments in Photography, 1967-2007. This collection spans MCA's entire history and focuses on the evolution of photography from a documentary medium into conceptual fine art. See for yourself how the artists utilized different techniques, from blowing up images to an enormous size to juxtaposing images and text.

This is a unique chance to see the MCA's impressive collection of conceptual photography — works by Andres Serrano, Cindy Sherman, and many other established and up-and-coming artists. We'll also see the return of Beat Streuli's Chicago '99 installation on the museum's façade.

Even better, don't forget about Target Free Tuesdays at the MCA. Get some culture and get it for free. It doesn't get much better than that.

MCA EXPOSED: Defining Moments in Photography, 1967-2007 runs through July 29.
