It's On!

February 2007 Ballot ReceiptToday is the day that we have all been waiting for. If you haven't taken advantage of Early Voting (and if you live in the 25th Ward, that might be a good thing), your ass needs to get up this morning, or leave work early, to go and vote. If you aren't sure where your polling place is (and with voting broken down by precinct it can be difficult to be sure), you can check here.

In ten wards, this election is a sure thing, as the aldermen there are running unopposed. In others, all bets are off (like in the 7th and the 15th). In others, such as the 50th and the 2nd, it's practically a given that this won't be over until April. As one friend of ours (whom we were convinced was decidedly apolitical) was musing last night, every election really does matter, because if you care about generally good people being in charge of your civic future, you have to go vote for them.

If the local news doesn't do it for you (it's always been a good excuse to get togeher with some other armchair analyst friends of ours and get shitfaced), you can tune into AlderTrack, who not only will be liveblogging the election results this evening, but has also teamed up with the Medill School of Journalism to get live reports from polling places and campaign headquarters in some of the most interesting ward races around the city. And you can tune into Chicagoist tomorrow for some of our classic hindsight and smarm.
