SXSW Dress Rehearsal at the Hideout

For those of us stuck in the Four Star City while all our great bands head to the Lone Star State, the Hideout has the perfect idea — a SXSW-style showcase before the event. It’s the perfect event to remind us of how much fun the Block Party was last year. It also lets us give a little back to those bands that many times travel down to Austin with nothing but hope in their pockets. The $10 cover will be split up to help the artists defray the costs of traveling to Texas, and each band will also get beverages and groceries from Goose Island Beer and Whole Foods.
We get the joy of seeing the bands’ SXSW set done in the traditional SXSW quick set up and tear down. On our first trip to SXSW, we heard that each band only had an hour to set up, play, and tear down. We didn’t think it was possible, but we were soon schooled by the kids who worked each and every venue in Austin at a breakneck speed to keep things on schedule.
Speaking of schedules — the Hideout hasn’t finalized the times that each band will be playing yet, and entrance to the shows are first come first serve — just like SXSW. The event will run noon – midnight on Saturday, March 10.
Some of the bands slated to appear before they head down south and west are Josh Caterer of Smoking Popes, Catfish Haven, Judson Claiborne of Low Skies, Velcro Lewis & his 100 Proof Band, The Narrator, The New Duncan Imperials, The 1900s, The M's, Maritime, OFFICE, The Prairie Cartel, The Race, The Redwalls, Sybris, Tijuana Hercules, Sally Timms, and The Zincs.
Hideout, Mar. 10, noon - midnight, $10, 21+
