It's That Time of Year, Again

There isn't much more we can say about the South Side Irish parade, which rolls out en masse along South Western this Sunday. We know that for some of you it'll be your first — and possibly only — time heading out south to Beverly. We just want to assure you that you needn't be afraid. A dollar is still a dollar, Miller Lite dyed green is still Miller Lite, and there will be more than enough folks like yourself so that you won't feel totally uncomfortable.
Truth is, Beverly is one of the finest neighborhoods in the city. If you've ever spent time wandering around Sauganash on the far northwest side, you'll know what we're talking about. We've biked around Beverly and Morgan Park, gasped in amazement at the mansions and homes, and had more than our share of libations and great food. Last year, some of the Chicagoist staff took a field trip down to Cork & Kerry a couple days before the parade, and it was a glorious experience. It isn't like it's impossible to get down there, either. Metra's Rock Island line will be jam-packed this weekend.
What we're trying to say, since we're the torch bearers of the South Side for Chicagoist, is to enjoy ourselves, to drink responsibly, to treat the residents of Beverly with some respect, and to use some discretion. Otherwise, you might find yourself singing this:
Have a great weekend.
