Chicago Fire Talking to Blanco

By Todd McClamroch in News on Mar 12, 2007 5:34PM

Both Red Card and Ridge Mahoney of SoccerAmerica are reporting that Fire GM John Guppy has met with Mexican League Star Cuauhtemoc Blanco about joining the Fire in 2007. SoccerAmerica reported that salary terms of $1.5-2 million per season for either one or three years are being discussed.

Blanco, although aging at 34 and having suffered several injuries during his career, continues to find the back of the net, including four times this season for Club America in Mexico. Chicagoist is concerned about signing Blanco to a three-year deal as we have doubts he will be an impact player in Major League Soccer in a year or two as he continues to age. We hope if he is brought in that it is soon and under a one-year deal.

The Fire are 4-4-1 with three games to go in their pre-season training. They kick off the season on April 7 versus the New England Revolution.
