March (Musical) Madness

2007_03_sxsw_ist_party.gifAh, SXSW. Yup, it's the time of year when industry flacks, up-and-coming bands, under-the-radar hopefuls, and drunken journalists all descend upon Austin, Texas, for a few days of shmoozing, boozing, and live-music grooving. Chicago bands are being well represented this year, and a few of them are even traveling in style after Hideout's fundraiser last weekend. (We were told that the event raised over $10,000 in donations to send the sixteen bands that participated down to Austin. That's a lot of Shiner Bock!) And of course there's the great day parties thrown by local venues down there like Metro, Schuba's and Bloodshot Records.

Don't forget the -ists though! We're making our mark down there this week as well. Tomorrow, Gothamist and Austinist will team up with Gorilla Vs Bear to present "Gonna Gonna Get, Get Down! 2" with Architecture in Helsinki, Headlights, Nicole Atkins, Peter and the Wolf, Tom Brosseau, Apes and Androids, Shivers, Hello Stranger, Forms, Sparrow House, Teitur, Earl Greyhound, Stars of Track and Field, Loney Dear, Hourly Radio, and Ceeplus Bad Knives.

LAist has already landed and left behind some scorched earth.

Chicagoist can't make it, but if you go, leave your thoughts and/or updates in the comments!
