America's Next Top American Idol Model

Well, what can we say about “American Idol”? Our Naperville girl Gina Glocksen is hanging in there, good for her. There’s way too much going on around her, she’ll be sticking around for a couple more weeks at least. We think she’s pretty. And a quick note about Sligh, we happened to have liked his rendition of "Endless Love". If the judges don't want potential idols messing with the songs, they should stop telling them to mess with the songs. Hurumph.
Yesterday in the Trib, Maureen Ryan wrote that she blames the producers for Sanjaya’s frightening performance, that “Letting Sanjaya sing an iconic Marvin Gaye track is equivalent to allowing a 10-year-old to scale Everest.” She’s right too; someone needs to help this kid out a little bit. But we here at Chicagoist also blame the American public. Can we all pull together and put this poor boy out of his misery? We don’t think Sanjaya wants to be there anymore either. He looks scared and embarrassed, and if this country had any sort of mercy they would stop voting for our curly-haired creature. Let Sanjaya go America, let Sanjaya go.
On the reverse side of everything that is unholy, “America’s Next Top Model” had its makeover episode last night, our favorite. We were a little groggy due to the 10:30 showing of ANTM, but pleased that they aired it at all. We’ve got one Chicago girl, Jaslene, and one girl from Lake Zurich, Sarah. We have to say that we kind of like Jaslene. We love her look of long, straight black hair and that long, stick-thin body. She may be whack crazy, but she adds a little spice and girl, she is something fierce.
No major drama last night with the hair except for the mellow-talking Jael, poor girl! Sitting there in that chair for eight hours? And then having to get it all undone? Yikes. And can we just get rid of Natasha the Russian already? She looks better with her makeover, but we’re afraid of what she might do in upcoming episodes. And poor Rene, man, that girl has got some anger to her! We think she’s so pretty, but she becomes less and less so the more anger she lets through. Maybe her breakdown next week will lead her to a better space. Our breakdowns usually do.
