Martinis and Mies van der Rohe sounds like a pretty awesome combination. Add in some birthday cake and a few passed appetizers, and Chicagoist is all about it.
We know not everyone loves Mies van der Rohe, but you can't deny the influence he had on Chicago and modern architecture. To celebrate what would have been the architect's 121st birthday (RIP Mies), the Illinois Institute of Technology will be hosting "Mixing the Perfect Mies," a soirée in his honor, next Tuesday, March 27. After birthday cake and martinis, Franz Schulze and Edward Windhorst, authors of the 2007 revised edition of Mies van der Rohe, A Critical Biography and Critique will read new passages from the book, including transcripts of the Farnsworth house trial and the reading of Mies' will.
Dress is "party casual" or whatever that means, and dress is black and white (it is Mies van der Rohe after all). The party costs $50 and includes a one-year membership in the Mies van der Rohe Society, or $20 for Mies Society members. For tickets and more information call 312-567-5042 or email miesmembership@iit.edu.
